THE SIXTH FLOOR MUSEUM AT DEALEY PLAZA- Dallas, Texas
1993-2004
Management of $5.0 million historic museum serving almost 400,000 visitors annually. Responsibilities included supervision of staff of 58, annual planning, annual budget preparation, and supervision of accounting, marketing, retail, development, facilities management, exhibitions, collections, educational curriculum and public programs. Represented museum in state and national associations and conferences.
Diversification of revenues; revenues increased by 400% over ten years; Development of five-year strategic financial plan comprising revised mission and vision statements, physical expansion, financial planning, product development, expansion of interpretive and educational services, including publications and research.
Directed the $2.5 million expansion and renovation of the seventh floor gallery; produced opening exhibition entitled The Pulitzer Prize Photographs: Capture the Moment; Warhol & Jackie: Artist and Icon; in 1997, supervised expansion and renovation of Visitors Center; directed the restoration of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza.
Supervised feasibility study for $3 million restoration of Dealey Plaza; approval of $518,000 in city bonds approved May 2003.

Executive Producer JFK: Eyewitness to Tragedy, American Public Television, November 2003. Winner of the American Association of Museums Gold Muse Award in the History and Culture category, May 2004.
Established public oral history program including conducting public interviews with Bob Schieffer, Hugh Sidey, Pierre Salinger, Jacques Lowe, Richard Stolley, Cecil Stoughton, and Douglas Brinkley. Conducted tours with visiting dignitaries including Lech Walesa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Senator Patrick Moynihan, James Meredith, Walter Cronkite, Representative John Lewis, and others.
Expanded services for foreign language audiences including development of audio tours (Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese); foreign language guide books (German, Spanish); development of contextual materials (audio tours, guidebooks) for Japanese visitors.
Coordinated the 40th anniversary events of the Kennedy assassination; coordinated the 30th anniversary ceremonies; including dedication of Dealey Plaza as a National Historic Landmark; managed international media coverage.
Interface with varied constituencies including diverse staff/board, visitors, international media, donors, governmental entities, etc.
Restructured and retired debt for initial construction; debt repaid four years ahead of schedule.
Community activities included public speaking, serving on panels, membership in leadership associations, task forces, etc. Co-founder of the Dallas Dinner Table, a community initiative focused on improving race relations.

DALLAS THEATER CENTER - Dallas, Texas
Managing Director
1989-1994
Managed $3.4 million cultural institution; produced over 50 major productions--including regional (Abundance by Beth Henley), national (Temptation by Vaclav Havel), and world premieres (The Idiot by Dostoevsky). Responsibilities included primary executive interface with 72 member Board of Trustees, supervision of a staff of over 75, annual budget preparation, supervision of accounting, marketing, development, facilities, and production.
Planned and executed National Endowment for the Arts Challenge campaign resulting in the establishment of $800,000 cash reserve; restructured and consolidated existing debt.
Implemented the Hamon Challenge Endowment Campaign resulting in the addition of over $1.5 million to the endowment corpus.
Managed the $1.6 million renovation of the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Kalita Humphreys Theater and the construction of the Heldt Administration Building.
In the absence of an Artistic Director, developed programming and marketing plans for the 1991-92 season resulting in the largest ticket revenues ($1.35 million) in theater's history.
Restructured customer service procedures resulting in 13 per cent increase in season ticket renewals.
Supervised the installation and expansion of computer network, which integrated customer service, accounting and development functions of the theater resulting in increased precision and efficiency.
Coordinated with Long Range Planning Committee in the development and implementation of five-year strategic plan outlining strategic assertions and tactical actions relating to audience development, artists, programming, community outreach, governance, facilities and fiscal structure.
Traveled extensively as representative to the League of Resident Theaters (national collective bargaining association) and as site evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts. Also led theater/museum tours for major donors to Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

IRVING ARTS BOARD - Irving, Texas

Management of governmental arts board that directly interfaced with the Irving City Council. Supervised staff in the management of theater/gallery facilities; administered governmental grants program.
Supervised in cooperation with Board members, city staff and city council the awarding of $7.1 million dollar contract for the construction of new two-theater complex.
Developed and administered new governmental grant-making guidelines and procedures.
Supervised civic volunteers in the installation and management of touring Smithsonian Institute exhibit, which attracted over 10,000 visitors.
Revised organizational structure, job descriptions; instituted new staff evaluation process.

SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL OF DALLAS - Dallas, Texas
Executive Director
1986-1988
Management of arts organization that produced two Shakespearean productions and annual educational outreach performances.
Supervised reorganization, IRS debt restructuring and grants compliance.
Managed the successful Meadows Foundation Challenge campaign for debt retirement ($75,000).
Initiated negotiations with the City of Dallas for relocation of the Festival to Samuel-Grand Park.
Redesigned annual corporate fund raising campaign resulting in dramatically increased ($60,000) corporate support.
